Southern California’s Lightning in a Bottle Arts and Music Festival Announces New Location and New Dates!

Southern California’s beloved art and music festival Lightning in a Bottle is getting a new home this year. The Riverside County Board of Supervisors approved the application for Lake Skinner County Park to host The Do LaB’s famed sustainability music festival, which will run for its eighth year from July 11 to July 15, 2013.

Previously held during Memorial Day Weekend at Orange County’s Oak Canyon Park, the annual four day festival was prompted to find a new location when new zoning resulted in the park bordering Conservancy-owned land, forcing out all large-scale music festivals. The Orange County Fire and Sheriff’s Department provided letters of recommendation to assist the festival in securing its new location.

Lake Skinner County Park is a hidden gem of Temecula in Southern California that The Do LaB feels fortunate to have found for their long term plans. The new site, which sits on a peninsula next to the lake, will expand the capacity of the event to 15,000 participants as well as provide more facilities like full RV hook-ups, while yielding the same natural beauty and open space that made previous festivals so well received. Besides the beautiful view, the new location is also more compact, making the grounds easier to navigate and providing for a more comfortable camping experience.

An amazing lineup of music, speakers, workshops, and performance art is in the works and will be announced on April 23, 2013. The festival will once again feature three main stages for music and performance art along with multiple smaller stages and interactive areas spread throughout the festival grounds for participants to explore and discover workshops, speakers, and intimate music sessions. These smaller stages and interactive areas will also keep the festivities going all night long after the main stages close each night. To beat the heat, there will be daytime water areas and features planned to keep participants cool, similar to The Do LaB’s Oasis stage at Coachella.

Pre-sale tickets go on sale for 48 hours beginning Tuesday, February 12th at 10am PST via Lightning in a Bottle’s website. Regular ticket sales will begin on March 18, 2013.

ABOUT THE DO LAB / LIGHTNING IN A BOTTLE
Based in Los Angeles, The Do LaB’s mission is to create experience as art and bring communities together. Aside from showcasing electronic music artists at their monthly events in Los Angeles and San Diego, The Do LaB are best known for their unique art installations/stages and cutting edge acts at the inner misting Oasis stage at Coachella in addition to producing Southern California’s Lightning in a Bottle and the game changing 2012 Winter Solstice event The Great Convergence which took place at the pyramids of Giza in Egypt. Lightning in a Bottle is known for its unique atmosphere that focuses on art, spiritual well-being, and sustainability as much as it does on music. iheartcomix: [Event Review] Sepalcure, Clark, Djemba Djemba + Sahy Uhns [9/29/12 @ Los Globos // Los Angeles, CA
It’s not often that I go to a show where I’ve been following three of the performers for almost a decade. Laptop performances at their best, this event at Los Globos was a night to be remembered. What else would you expect from IHC?

The track selection from Sahy Unhs was a bit more experimental than the rest–think Autechre with more hip-hop influence–playing songs that were bass heavy and lots of fun to listen to. Experimental, but still kept the dance floor moving, which is difficult to do! One of the perks of going to a show where 3/5 of the arists flew in from Europe is that you get unique local acts. Straightaway the show was bursting with energy.

Djemba Djemba was representing with trill shit, trap music and more. This is right up our alley at the moment. Like much of the music being released on LuckyMe nowadays. Love it. The selection was very palatable to even unseasoned electronic music fans, which my girlfriend–more of a rock girl–pointed out at the show. Excellent selection from Djemba Djemba.

It was awesome to be able to see Clark. Been following him since 2004, back when his artist name was “Chris Clark.” Clark’s following was impressive; of course, the show was in Silver Lake (which, much like Williamsburg), has no hpstr culture whatsoever. Also, we highly recommend you never move to Silver Lake if your car rides low to the ground. Friday night was scrape city. Some streets in Silver Lake feel like you’re off-roading on hills, but the music scene is terrific (uneven asphalt discrepancies aside).

Ah yes, and then there was Sepalcure. Machinedrum and Praveen (two artists we’ve known since they were signed to Merck Records. Perhaps the most exciting performance of the night for us, as the tag-team effect was super engaging and energetic. Funny thing about the duo that night is that their live show sounded even better than their studio recordings! This didn’t have to do with the sound system at Los Globos either (although it was good), but maybe more to do with the danceable jam-session feel that gives such a human touch to electronic music. Random Sepalcure fact: they had music featured in the film Black Swan.

Very fun night! Enjoy the pix.
