Port Washington, N.Y.–The votes have all been counted and it’s official–DJ Times magazine and Pioneer DJ are proud to announce that Kaskade has been voted America’s Best DJ for 2011.

The talented Los Angeles-based jock will be honored October 9 in Las Vegas for the ABDJ Closing Party, which will include a press reception at Marquee. After being presented with his trophy–a special Gold-Plated Pioneer mixer–Kaskade will take to the decks for the wildest Sunday night party in Vegas.

“I am really proud to be named America’s Best DJ. When I look at the Top 100 list, there are so many talented people on there, people that I have looked up to for years. While most of the votes were cast online at the America’s Best DJ website, the America’s Best DJ Summer Tour Presented by Pioneer DJ supported the contest by allowing fans to vote in-person at 20+ club and festival events.

Today was a strict mix of drive-time pleasure with a bit of business. Highlights consisted of a trip from Venice to Malibu, some Caribbean cuisine and orchid browsing.

The latest mix from The Abrahammer is a good mash-up mix. There are some samples that Girl Talk has used, but then again Girl Talk used samples that were previously used by Kid606 years before. Honestly, we’d rather hear mash-up than most of these original songs, because by now all of the originals have become so boring. For instance, would we ever listen to John Mellencamp? Hell no. Add his instrumentals to Jay-Z and ODB and that’s a different story though. To us, mash-up is like the future of DJing, unless you’re some kind of musical purist and you want to hear original songs untouched. If that’s the case, though, why not just listen to music at home? Most pop music is boring and mashing it up makes it more interesting. Wouldn’t even want to listen to these originals on their own because there’s nothing unexpected about them.

That Adele song – “Rolling In The Deep,” is super boring now. If it were edited and chopped up, then maybe we wouldn’t rather have silence than that playing.

So Jeff Weiss over at Pop & Hiss — The LA Times Music Blog — talks about the Lightning In a Bottle Festival (“LIB”), which is only a couple days away! The line-up is massive, and we’re feeling what LIB has to offer.

This year, LIB has already run a mixtape contest, where the winner receives free entrance as well as a slot in the schedule of performances during the four day festival (among other things). The winner of the selection is THE SEX PIXELS. We’re looking forward to hearing their set, although it could be quite late. Could be? Actually, HERE’S A LINK TO THE FINAL SCHEDULE, so now you know the exact time they’ll be on (2:30am Saturday morning).

We are happy to present forthcoming HEADLINE additions to the soon approaching and much anticipated Lightning in a Bottle Music and Arts Festival 2010, presented by The Do Lab, which will occur Memorial Day weekend (May 28-31) at the beautiful Oak Canyon Ranch in Irvine, CA.

Not surprisingly our three top finalists were all unbelievable female DJ’s… The submissions have all been great and it was quite a task picking the “Grand Producer” to perform at this years LIB, but alas we have chosen and her name is KRYSTEE!

Soooo… cop an album that you need.

When Kid Sister announced this show on her Facebook, we hadn’t even heard about it, but snagged tickets online the same day because intuition was just shouting that it would be a fun time. Kid Sister–aka Melisa Young–and Flosstradamus–J2K (Josh Young) and Autobot (Curt Cameruci): are you kidding us? Our expectation for the show could not have been more accurate!

Detroit Bar isn’t a huge venue in terms of space, but it’s big enough and the vibe there the whole night was awesome. We arrived early: before the place had even really filled-up, and it was still entertaining to start the night by listening to good music as the TV screens played clips from the 80′s. Not much time passed before the place was packed and everyone was dancing.

This was the best show that we’ve been to in months. It’s not purely about the music, of course, but it’s also about the crowd. Not only were the performances great, but everyone at the event was pretty chill. You know those times you’ve found yourself out and there’s some belligerent drunk guy trying to start beef with you over nothing, or when everyone’s so hung-up on looking cool that they are kind of awkward and don’t even seem like they’re really having a good time? Well, this night was the opposite. Most everyone seemed like they were just busting loose and enjoying themselves. For that reason it was a memorable night. Check out the video below and see how part of how wild things got for yourselves.

Okay, so you may have noticed the annoying feedback in the series of clips. Oh well, just like love, shows aren’t perfect. Kid Sister handled it in a breezy way though, and honestly, the energy during the show was so intense with everyone all hyped-up by the performance that it wasn’t all that noticeable.
