Vinyl Life: Remake of Joey Beltram’s Classic “Energy Flash.”

VL blurry 9864 Vinyl Life: Remake of Joey Beltrams Classic Energy Flash.

In their latest tribute, Vinyl Life remakes the Techno Classic “Energy Flash” by Brooklyn’s own Joey Beltram with new lyrics by Phaze Future. This was made from the ground-up with no samples. The band-made video, however, is all sampled clips that are jacked from YouTube. Take a trip back in time with us to the warehouse days. If you’d like to do the rave thing for real, check out PEX Heartburn IV on Feb. 13th in Philadelphia where VL will be doing a live set. Check out more live dates below.

LuckyMe: Machinedrum – 44 Footwerk Classixxx Mixtape

44 LuckyMe: Machinedrum 44 Footwerk Classixxx Mixtape

There some hoes in this house, if you see ‘em point ‘em out!

Two things that are great: LuckyMe and Machinedrum.

Another thing that’s great: this mix. How great the nostalgic and trash-talking tracks on this mix are. Best listened to with scones and some tea.

Las Vegas, Nevada — No town in America represents “party” more than Las Vegas, so it’s only appropriate that Sin City served as the host town for the 2009 America’s Best DJ award ceremony and closing party this past weekend.

Presented Sept. 12 by title sponsor Pioneer Pro DJ and DJ Times magazine, the honor of America’s Best DJ was bestowed upon Z-Trip.

After more than four months of online voting (americasbestdj.net) and a supporting 25-event Summer Tour, the Los Angeles-based mash-up maven/turntablist accrued the most ballots and was tabbed the winner of the 4th annual vote.

At The Palms’ rooftop lounge Ghostbar, Z-Trip (aka Zach Sciacca) was handed his spoils—a special gold-plated Pioneer DJM-800 mixer from superstar DJ Paul Oakenfold and an ABDJ gold medal from Pioneer Pro DJ’s Karl Detken.

Later on in the evening, Z-Trip descended to the hotel’s Rain nightclub for an opening slot in support of Oakenfold’s game-changing Planet Perfecto party. The packed club was treated to a vintage Z-Trip set unbound by genres and a true “Vegas moment” when the DJ was joined on stage by The Pointer Sisters during their classic track, “Jump.”

“It was great for us to be involved again in this year’s America’s Best DJ award ceremony and closing party events,” said Detken, Director of Product Planning & Artist Relations for Pioneer Pro DJ. “It was by far the best ever. We look forward to next year.”

“The Palms is proud to be affiliated with America’s Best DJ and DJ Times,” said Sol Shafer of the N9NE Group, which oversees Rain and Ghostbar. “As avid fans and developers of the American electronic music scene, we are proud to call DJ Times a partner. We look forward to once again crowning America’s Best DJ with us here at the Palms Casino Resort in September of 2010.”

A BIG thanks go out to all the fans who voted for their favorite DJs and congratulations to Z-Trip for being crowned “America’s Best DJ 2009.”

See you in 2010!

Jimmy Edgar: Funktion EP

jimmy edgar funktion Jimmy Edgar: Funktion EP

Last Wednesday Jimmy Edgar dropped his record, Funktion EP (available here for full preview and purchase in both digital and vinyl) on the new label co-run by Richie Hawtin’s M-nus corporation, ITEMS&THINGS. Edgar’s style on this release is fashionable with nice vocals from Edgar (as usual), while also being reminiscent of the classic rave scene, with an interesting modern twist. For any longtime electronic music scene fans, the second track of four, “Young Thing,” is a must with its acidic/tb303 feel.

One of our favorite things about the exquisite production of Jimmy Edgar is the fact that his melodies and rhythm are so uniquely his. Love his musical ability and hearing how he combines a banging, electronic dance floor sound with catchy, very human feeling synth jams. We’ve seen many changes from Edgar as he has developed as an artist, but one thing is for certain: he is unstoppable with whatever instrument he touches.

Jimmy’s favorite DJ from Detroit, Magda, lets this one go on her label (with partners RunStopRestore) and will sure be one of the sweat sexed designs of ‘09 to hit & bloody the dancefloor. “Funktion of your Love” features two remixes, one by Seth Troxler and a rare acid washed Plus Device affiliated B-side called “Young Thing”. The main track is instrumental and although the vox didnt make the cut, we will be releasing that version for free shortly after it comes out.

“Funktion of your Love” has gone through a plethora of generations including a cover by New Look (Adam Pavao & Sara Ruba). Its origins lie in a vocal pop track by Jimmy which is featured on the creatively delayed ‘Deeper’ LP which is still in production and looking to see the light of day this Autumn 2009.

Jimmy Edgar once again embarks on a late September 09 European tour. Contact littlebig Agency to book DJ Jimmy Edgar or his new EUROvision Live performance as we are looking for more cities to infiltrate. Some cities include Riga, Berlin, London, Hamburg, Vilnius and more.

If you want Jimmy, contact a promoter to contact his people.

The Village Voice on board with VINYL LIFE: Furthering the Death of AutoTune

Debut album out now on CD, Cassette Tape, Digital, and of course, Vinyl!

“I am FEELING the album man! It’s fresh and original and sounds like nothing else out there which is always a plus in my book!”

“THE RECORD IS HOT” – GrandWizzard Theodore

Vinyl Life’s self-titled debut reflects New York City’s heyday of breakdancing music, Latin freestyle, and up-tempo breakbeats, celebrating a time when rappers danced and electro was something you heard emanating from boom boxes and public transit, not from public radio.

Read Dennis Romero’s fantastic article on Vinyl Life in this week’s Village Voice

Vinyl Life’s Butcha, Phaze Future and Richie Roxx grew up in New York City and religiously read the Village Voice on a weekly basis to learn about the best concerts and most interesting new music. So, to actually be featured in The Voice – the country’s longest running weekly alternative paper – for their work is truly something special. Dennis Romero nails it by telling a story of three real guys who met under a mutual admiration for electro, hip-hop, house and techno – but crafted only with vintage analog gear. The authentic 80’s influence comes through the music and you can feel what NYC was back in the day through Vinyl Life.

Not content with limiting their release to CD and digital, Vinyl Life also printed up Vinyl copies and commissioned limited edition hand-painted cassettes. This all adds to the authenticity of the music and adds some extra value to the fans without much expense falling on Vinyl Life’s shoulders.

We all grew up listening to cassette mixtapes bought off the streets,” Butcha says. “It was a no-brainer to create vinyl and cassettes because these mediums were crucial to the overall experience of the time. Plus, kids today only know about music from MP3’s and CDs. We can’t have that.

Vinyl Life’s live show is also like nothing currently on the market. A recent show at NYC’s Santos Party House featured improvisational versions of the album tracks and even a cover of Joey Beltram’s classic “Energy Flash” (Check out Deneka Peniston’s awesome photos here). Whether it’s as a full live act or a DJ set (or both), Vinyl Life is fully capable of providing the music for an entire evening. No two shows are alike.

As both a treat for the fans and a way to help spread the music, Vinyl Life is offering its debut album as a pay-what-you-want download ($1 minimum) from their Bandcamp page. All donations are greatly appreciated in order to keep moving this art forward!
